It’s more than a book! I’ve been in Belgium for 18 months and already passed NT2 A1-A2 but still could not understand the people so well. I understood only standaardtaal but never heard tussentaal. “Wa zegt ge” makes me figure out what the people express more. The Flemish spoken language is attractive but difficult. My husband family is Brussels. They speak always mixed French and Vlaams. Nobody can explain to me clearly. I also studied French A1 but it was not a good solution. I was hopeless till I found this book. There are a lot of exercise to practice. I’m continuing practice listening as much as I can.

Having a father from Belgium (who unfortunately did not teach me Flemish) and a general interest in languages, I wanted to learn Flemish, but all books that I found were for learning standard Dutch. So I was more than happy to come across this fabulous and comprehensive book for Vlaamse spreektaal, it is exactly was I was looking for. It’s all about communication and the language that is really spoken, with heaps of examples, audio material and fun exercises to perfectly set you up for colloquial conversations, covering all kinds of everyday situations you might find yourself in. This book has helped me a lot to communicate with my family in Belgium, and I keep constantly consulting it . Thank you 🙂

Must-have for ‘anderstaligen’ in Belgium 🙂
I can’t recommend this book enough to all language enthusiasts – it’s a dynamic, immersive, and essential companion for venturing into the world of Flemish. It is focused on spoken language, complemented by a treasure trove of audio materials and a comprehensive dictionary that’s sure to make your learning journey smoother. All those extra materials are available on Google drive. Don’t skip the intro! 😉 There you’ll find a set of tips how to follow the book in the most effective way.
Hartelijk dank, Sofie!

THE missing link! This should be taught at school. I fully recommend it, I learned a third of the book during 2 professional years in Flanders, looking forward to saving 4 more years!
